Are you an early-career researcher with a passion for plant ecology and data analytics?

Join our collaborative and world-leading team at Lincoln University as a Postdoctoral Fellow contributing to innovative research on emerging invasive plant risks driven by online trade. In this role you will analyse historic and contemporary e‑commerce data to understand sales patterns, pricing, and geographic spread of ornamental plants, helping inform policies that reduce biosecurity threats across New Zealand.  Some tasks of the role include:

  • Developing a risk index for emerging species using online trade dynamics
  • Assessing the practicality of sales bans to limit online trade
  • Evaluating whether pricing differences can reduce sales of high‑risk species
  • Integrating findings into an emerging invasion risk index
  • Providing recommendations on risk and surveillance needs to stakeholders

This is a three-year fixed term role working 37.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE) at our Lincoln University Campus. The salary is fixed at NZD$80,000 per annum.

We are looking for someone who will have:

  • A PhD in a relevant field and a developing research record
  • Proven ability in data analytics, machine learning, and handling large datasets
  • Experience in data management, including optimising online searches and metadata practices
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective organisational skills with initiative and self‑motivation
  • Ability to work constructively with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds
