The NZES 2015 student day is an opportunity to present your research, network with fellow students, gain valuable experience and share in enthusiasm for ecology.  

Student day is being held on 15 November 2015 at the University of Canterbury and is included for the price of registering for the main conference.

The student day will include: 

  • Student presentations (10 and 5 min talks)
  • A science communication workshop
  • Career-focused panel discussions with ecologists from a range of organisations
  • A social mixer (quiz night)

Venue and location

The Student Day will be held in the Biology Building, Seminar room 275 (2nd floor).

Access is from the Biology car park (Forestry Road), via the Edgar Stead Atrium. See the campus map for directions.

Lunch and coffee breaks will be served in the adjacent tea room and the quiz night will be at the Staff Club Bar, upstairs Ilam Homestead.

 

Getting there - Christchurch transport options

Both Air New Zealand and Jet Star have flight options that arrive before 9 am on Sunday 15 November.

The Christchurch Airport website lists a range of transport options including bus, shuttles and taxis. Check these out and plan up your journey, so that you don't miss up on the start of the day!

It easy to bus from the airport to the University of Canterbury. You can take the P (purple) and 29 lines, which each depart every 30 min. The P line goes through University and the 29 close to the University (corner Fendalton and Clyde Rd, 10 minutes walk). Airport buses are $8 one way or $14 return. Take a look at the metro website for more information.

 

How to get the most out of the NZES conference

The Dynamic Ecology website has lots of useful tips on how to make the most of your conference experience. This will be particularly helpful if this is your first conference.

Topics include how to network effectively, how to give a good presentation and how to answer tough questions.
