Advertisement for Scientific Editor, NZ Journal of Ecology

We are seeking a new Scientific Editor for the New Zealand Journal of Ecology (NZJE). The NZJE is the scientific publication of the Ecological Society of New Zealand and as such is an important voice for NZ ecology and ecologists.  The journal publishes 60-70 papers per year.  We are looking for a scientific editor to replace George Perry, who is stepping down from this role.  The role of the scientific editor requires a broad understanding of NZ ecology and ecosystems and the science publishing process; specific duties include:

  • managing the editorial board of the journal
  • leading the editorial process by allocating manuscripts to appropriate board members and making a final decision on them
  • liaising with the journal's technical editor on matters relating to the production of issues
  • an ex officio place on the NZES Council, in particular to develop the strategy of the journal in consultation with the Council

A small honorarium is attached to the position.

George is happy to discuss the role with interested applicants (e: nzjecol.editor@gmail.com) and is also happy to be involved in a transitional role as appropriate. Ideally, we would have a new science editor in place for the start of 2022 but we will review applications until we have identified an appropriate candidate.  Applications will be reviewed from 16 November 2021.

Please send applications to the NZES President: president@newzealandecology.org
