We are looking for an enthusiastic plant pathologist who is able to assist with weed biocontrol projects and who hasgreat management and leadership skills.

About the opportunity

This is an opportunity to join a team acknowledged to be world leaders in the development of biological control solutions for invasive weeds. This role is responsible for conducting research to develop plant pathogens as biocontrol agents to control weeds in natural and productive sector ecosystems, both in New Zealand and overseas. There is also an opportunity to contribute to other plant pathogen-based research such as diseases affecting native plants, including biocontrol options for these. This role will also be responsible for managing a plant pathogen containment facility, where work on potential biocontrol agents is conducted, and for fostering development and managing the wellbeing of a biocontrol/plant pathology capability group.

This position is open term, full time, reports to the Science Team Leader, Biocontrol & Molecular Ecology and is based at our Auckland site.

About you

You will be a PhD qualified researcher in the field of plant pathology with molecular skills, and ideally will have worked on biocontrol projects before. Previous experience of managing a specialist facility or laboratory is an advantage. You will be a motivated champion of excellent science, with strong people skills.
