Abstract:

A bioclimatic zone system is proposed that defines a set of biogeographical cells so as to facilitate valid global comparisons of ecological data. These zones are primarily defined on grounds of temperature and secondarily on moisture balance. They roughly correspond with potential vegetation boundaries, but extant vegetation is not necessarily a biogeographically useful index of a site.
